The team's opinion: The Radial Engineering Tonebone Classic is a complete and ultra-versatile tube preamp! Don't be fooled by its retro look, it's a real Swiss army knife that will satisfy both amateur Home-Studio guitarists and those looking for a portable solution for live performance.
Sound level, we are clearly in the Fender spirit. That is to say a warm, articulate and vintage overdrive. When you push the gain knob to the maximum you are faced with a more fuzzy sound: it's convincing!
Attention, lovers of modern and straight sounds will be disappointed, this is not a Hi-Gain pedal. The 3 additional switches come to bring a significant plus and complete an already provided sound palette. Indeed, it will be possible for you to impact the voicing, and that according to your amp and guitar, it's interesting.
Tube pedal obliges, the Radial Engineering Tonebone Classic has a 12ax7 to reinforce the warm and organic side. Can we say that the lamp brings a big plus compared to some transistors? No idea, but the rendering is rather convincing, especially for vintage sounds.
It seems that this pedal is more comfortable with guitars with single coil pickups. We were talking earlier about Home-studio, this pedal is super interesting when plugged directly into a sound card.
ATTENTION, the Tonebone requires a 15V DC power supply of 400 Ma (unfortunately not supplied with …)
The Tonebone Classic is a very good alternative to the Morley Dual Distortion. Find our effects pedals in action on our Youtube channel.
